In connection with the Maastricht Treaty referendum on 2 June, 1992 an information campaign was planned by the Central Organization of Metal Workers in Denmark (CO-Metal) and the Confederation of Danish Industry (Industriens Arbejdsgivere). # Heimburger Reklamebureau A/S was in charge of the preparation of the campaign. A prerequisite for a goal-directed campaign was to obtain information on people's knowledge of, interest in and attitude to a European union. # Vilstrup Research carried out an attitudinal survey in order to examine people's knowledge of and attitude to the European Union. The purpose was to collect information which would provide the basis for the level of the campaign. # Two group discussions were held prior to the survey, and the knowledge gained in this way formed the basis of the preparation of the questionnaire
