资源简介:

This thesis evaluates the fluid dynamics created by small tubes called cannulae used during artificial heart-lung therapy for end-stage heart and lung failure patients. Cannulae are associated with complex flow characteristics that can instigate life-threatening complications during treatment, thus worsening patient outcomes. However, there is lack of understanding on how aspects such as cannula design and cannula position, impact flow dynamics and subsequent risk of complications. To address this gap, this thesis details the intricate flow characteristics produced by cannulae and develops improved designs and strategies that may translate towards a reduced complication risk and improved patient outcomes.
