Project: Salmonella and Campylobacter

Campylobacter spp. and Salmonella are the leading causes of foodborne illnesses globally, yet little is known about the comparison of their antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in poultry-borne zoonotic pathogens in Bangladesh. This information is crucial for assessing public health risks and developing strategies to mitigate threats at the source. The study has the following objectives:1. To isolate and identify Salmonella and Campylobacter from chickens on farms and in live bird markets.2. To determine the prevalence of these pathogens in the same sources.3. To evaluate the antimicrobial resistance patterns of the isolates.4. To compare the resistance mechanisms between Salmonella and Campylobacter, focusing on the prevalence of resistant genes linked to resistance to key antimicrobials.
