These files concern supplementary children's allowances granted in the following circumstances: husband in receipt of invalid pension, husband incapacitated (other than invalid pensioners), deserted wives, widows ineligible for widow's pension, unmarried mothers etc. The Parent's application shows name, date of birth, address, employment, personal particulars eg. nature of incapacitation, and includes sections covering all conditions under which allowances may be granted. In addition each case file includes a district officer's report, recommendation, and final decision made. Files also include information regarding additional social benefits. Prior to 1945 the Branch corresponded with food relief authorities notifying them of cases requiring attention. Files may include correspondence relating to court orders for maintenance, with the Police Department (concerning missing parents), and details of adoption of children.
