This dataset consists of analyses of a single sample (82_HY_06) of massive sulphide with Fe-oxyhydroxide crust collected on the RRS James Cook cruise JC224 (March - April 2022) to the Semenov Hydrothermal Field, a seafloor massive sulphide (SMS) system located within the Mid Atlantic Ridge. The sample was collected from Semenov-5 using the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) HyBIS (Murton et al., 2012). The sample was analysed onshore at the University of Southampton: (1) reflective light microscopy was undertaken to provide targets for, (2) subsequent trace elemental maps of sulphide oxidation by laser ablation time-of-flight inductively couple plasma mass spectrometry (LA-TOF-ICP-MS). This dataset aims to improve understanding regarding the mobilisation, distribution and retention of metals during the oxidation of sulphide minerals and subsequent alteration to their secondary products. The data were collected as part of a PhD project funded under NERC's Ultramafic-hosted mineral Resource Assessment (ULTRA) project, grant reference NE/S004068/1, and the samples are stored at the National Oceanography Centre.
