Facing pain is effortful: key role of the supplementary motor area and anterior midcingulate cortex

Description This dataset contains derivatives generated for the study Facing pain is effortful: key role of the supplementary motor area and anterior midcingulate cortex. Participants underwent one fMRI session during which they performed a visuomotor force-matching task. The task included two experimental factors: Temperature (None, Warm, Pain) and Force (5% and 30% of the maximal voluntary contraction). The goals of this study were to identify 1) brain regions related to visuomotor task execution during pain and 2) brain regions associated with the perception of effort. Dataset Description N = 40 (20 female, 20 male; range 18–40 years; mean age 27.55 years; all right-handed) Exclusion criteria included any history of chronic pain, neurological or psychiatric disorders, major medical conditions (e.g., cancer or cardiovascular disease), musculoskeletal impairments affecting hand function, uncorrected visual deficits, and current use of psychotropic or analgesic medications. Scanner & Acquisition Scanner: 3T Siemens Prisma Fit with a 32-channel head coil. Functional sequence: T2∗-weighted gradient echo-planar imaging sequence (Multiband acceleration factor: 3; TR: 0.832 s; TE: 20 ms; flip angle: 70°; voxel size: 3 × 3 × 3 mm; acquisition matrix: 64 × 64; number of slices: 51). Project Organization The data are separated into two subfolders: `PainxEffort.fmriprep`: folder containing the preprocessed fMRI data in MNI152NLin2009CAsym space as well as the events files and the confounds files. `PainxEffort.glm`: folder containing first-level, second-level and group-level derivatives Two subfolders are included in `PainxEffort.glm` : `PainxEffort_task.glm`: folder containing first-level, second-level and group-level derivatives generated from events files defining trials over 30s. The files generated in this folder refers to the modelization of the activity related to the task execution from the onset to the offset of handgrip contraction, and thermal stimulation from its onset to its offset corresponding to 30s. `PainxEffort_onspain.glm`: folder containing first-level and group-level derivatives generated from events files defining the trials from the beginning of the thermal stimulation to the beginning of the motor contraction. The files generated in this folder refers to the modelization of the activity relatd to the thermal stimulation.
