Properties of peat samples collected from Estonian peatlands

Properties of peat samples, collected and measured at the University of Tartu. All the samples are taken from peatlands in Estonia. Most of the sampling has been done using the Russian type corer, some surficial samples were cut using a serrated knife. The bulk density, ash content, and humification (as light absorbance at 540 nm) were measured using the laboratory protocol of Chambers et al., 2011. The von Post score and visible botanical components were assessed in the field.
