16s rRNA sequencing analysis of the fecal samples indicated that the balance of gut microbiota in the experimental UC rats was disturbed with less genus diversity and abundance at the family level. The abundance level of beneficial bacteria Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group and Lactobacillus at the genus level significantly increased in XSP group, which decreased by DSS. While increasing pathogenic bacteria Escherichia-Shigella and Bacteroides in DSS-induced rats were reduced by XSP intervention.
