Leading outbound travel destinations in EU-27 countries 2019-2022

A study published in December 2023 looked at the leading destinations for trips abroad among European Union (EU-27) member countries. In 2022, Italy was the leading outbound destination for German, Austrian, Swedish, and Maltese travelers. Meanwhile, France accounted for the highest share of outbound trips in Belgium, Spain, and Luxembourg. Overall, while Spain represented the highest share of trips abroad among EU countries in 2019, Italy ranked first in 2022.
