资源简介:
This dataset contains ocean microstructure data collected using the Epsilometer, a microstructure turbulence profiler built at Scripps Institution of Oceanography by M. H. Alford’s team. The selected data were collected during the NSF-funded Boundary Layer Turbulence (BLT) experiment in the Rockall Trough area of the North Atlantic Ocean on 24th July 2021. The dataset was prepared as a benchmark shear-probe data example for the Scientific Committee on Oceanographic Research (SCOR) working group number 160 "Analysing ocean turbulence observations to quantify mixing" (ATOMIX). Measurements are from a 2 hour mission with 4 identified profiles between 802 m and 1351m. The data from the Epsilometer include dissipation rate measurements from 2 airfoil shear probes, 3-axis piezo-accelerometers (320Hz) and a SBE49 CTD (16Hz). VN100 data (40Hz) and altimeter data (1Hz) are also collected by the Epsi-controller. The probes were oriented in the same direction and perpendicular to acceleration 3 channel. The dataset is processed and prepared following the SCOR Working Group ATOMIX guidelines and recommendations. The netCDF file includes four levels: L1: the continuous time series of full resolution data converted into physical units, L2: the cleaned time series used for spectral analysis, L3: wavenumber spectra and L4: the dissipation rate estimates. Further details are provided in the comments within the data file.
