Nostalgic technology, missing records, mysteries: How independent video games portray archives and archivists

This Master's research drew on archival science and video games studies methodologies to examine three critically acclaimed independent video games from an English language and Western developer context (<i>Her Story</i>, <i>Hypnospace Outlaw</i>, and <i>Blue Prince</i>) and explore:How do independent video games portray archives and archivists in both narrative and gameplay?How do these portrayals reinforce, subvert, or reimagine common stereotypes or assumptions about archives and archivists?The dataset here consists of XLSX-formatted quantitative and qualitative data gathered using checklists and codebooks from previous archival science research (Aldred et al., 2008; Oliver &amp; Daniel, 2015; Long, 2020; &amp; Carroll, 2021) and SRT-formatted automatic YouTube transcriptions of recorded gameplay.
