This dataset contains major and trace element geochemical data and boron isotope data of tourmaline. Tourmaline samples were collected from several tin deposits on the Lancang River tin ore belt in Yunnan Province and their surrounding wall rocks, including metamorphic rocks and granite. Major elements of tourmaline were analyzed in situ on thin sections via electron probe microanalysis (EPMA); trace elements and boron isotopes of tourmaline were tested in situ on thin sections using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), with the analysis conducted based on the EPMA dataset. The acquired data indicate that ore-forming-associated tourmaline reveals that the ore-forming fluids originated from highly differentiated S-type granitic magma. The fluids are primarily enriched in B, Sn and Al. Low Fe/(Mg + Fe) ratio, high oxygen fugacity and Al saturation are conducive to the precipitation of cassiterite, which serves as an indicator of the metallogenic potential of large-scale tin deposits.
