Evolutionary causes and consequences of transponsable elements' epigenetic effects

We surveyed the local enrichment of repressive epigenetic marks (H3K9me2) of TEs in six Drosophila species using ChIP-seq. We studied the impacts of these effects on neighboring gene expression using RNA-seq. We also examined whether the expression of Su(var) genes and the number of heterochromatic repeats influenced TEs' epigenetic enrichments.
