The organism was isolated from modern stromatolite community from Socompa lake at 3800 m altitude placed near to the active volcano Socompa in Northwest Argentina. Environmental conditions of these lakes include a pH of 9, a salinity of 22% and an arsenic content of 32 mg-L. Given these highly extreme conditions this organism could be useful on research in different fields such as biotechnological applications, astrobiology and evolutionary biology.
