西南极南设得兰群岛1∶250 000 地质图数据库是在充分利用近年来西南极南设得兰群岛地区的地质调查和其他综合性研究成果的基础上编制而成，同时对地层格架、年代学和古地磁极等关键地质问题进行了综合研究。编图过程中以板块构造及地球动力学理论为指导，用ArcGIS 10.4平台计算机辅助成图，成图精度高、质量好，数据量约为4.7 GB。综合编图和研究过程中，根据最新获取的锆石U–Pb和其他矿物Ar–Ar年龄、电子探针和岩石地球化学数据、古地磁数据和古生物化石样品，重新建立了中—新生代火山—沉积岩的年代学格架以及古生代地层的变质过程，划分了24个地层单元，恢复出该群岛的地层格架与沉积演化过程，并重建了南设得兰群岛的古位置，为南极大陆演化研究提供了详实的基础资料。

The 1:250,000 geological map database of the South Shetland Islands, West Antarctica was compiled based on full utilization of recent geological surveys and comprehensive research outcomes in the region. Comprehensive studies were also conducted on key geological issues including stratigraphic framework, geochronology and paleomagnetic poles. Guided by plate tectonic and geodynamic theories during the mapping workflow, computer-aided cartography was implemented using the ArcGIS 10.4 platform, yielding high-precision, high-quality products with a total data volume of approximately 4.7 GB. During the comprehensive mapping and research phases, based on newly obtained zircon U-Pb and other mineral Ar-Ar dating data, electron probe microanalysis, rock geochemical data, paleomagnetic data and paleontological fossil samples, the geochronological framework of Mesozoic-Cenozoic volcanic-sedimentary rocks and the metamorphic processes of Paleozoic strata were newly established. Twenty-four stratigraphic units were delineated, the stratigraphic framework and sedimentary evolution of the archipelago were reconstructed, and the paleoposition of the South Shetland Islands was restored, providing detailed fundamental data for research on the evolution of the Antarctic continent.
