Baseline Women's Survey

Baseline data was collected in 2022 from a representative sample of women, ages 18-49, residing in Kisumu County, western Kenya. First, mutually exclusive and exhaustive enumeration areas (EA) were created across the entire county. Next, within each EA building structures were randomly sampled using publicly available data​. Selected structures were visited by trained female enumerators who invited eligible women to participate in the study. Between 18-20 women in each EA were enrolled, resulting in a final sample size of 2484. For households containing more than one eligible woman, one was selected at random. The enumerator explained the study and enrolled participants via a written informed consent protocol. Data was collected from each consenting woman using a structured questionnaire to ascertain demographic characteristics, reproductive histories, and contraceptive behaviors and access to care. Data was collected on a password protected and encrypted tablet using the Survey CTO platform.
