The structure includes bastions, curtain walls, and internal courtyards designed for defense and surveillance. It served as a strategic outpost for maritime control and trade regulation. The fortress illustrates the intersection of European colonial ambitions and local geopolitical dynamics along the Indian Ocean coast.St Sebastian Fortress is part of the listed UNESCO World Heritage Site, <b>'Island of Mozambique'</b>.The Zamani Project seeks to increase awareness and knowledge of tangible cultural heritage in Africa and internationally by creating metrically accurate digital representations of historical sites. Digital spatial data of cultural heritage sites can be used for research and education, for restoration and conservation, and as a record for future generations.
