This dissertation explores the Lithium-Sulfur battery as one chemistry that promises a safer, higher energy density, cheaper, and more sustainable storage technology. Cellulose, being a versatile, inexpensive and tunable material, can be used to prepare stable battery electrodes. In this thesis, the focus is on exploring cellulose-based binders in the fabrication of high-performing sulfur cathodes. Built on the extensive experience acquired while working on several cellulose-based binder systems, the final project represents a unique and detailed insight into the successful fabrication and cycling of high-energy density pouch cell prototypes.
