cGAS nuclear accumulation was observed when leptomycin B was used to block the exportin, chromatin maintenance region 1 protein.
Identified a functional nuclear export signal (NES) in cGAS, 169-LEKLKL-174.
Mutating this NES led to sequestration of cGAS within the nucleus and the loss of interferon response to cytosolic DNA treatment.
