Expenditure on education as a share of total spending in Italy 2022, by level

In 2022, the Italian government allocated 79 billion euros to the education system. Public expenditure on elementary school in Italy amounted to 2.7 percent of the total government spending, around 29 billion euros. In addition, 3.2 percent of the total public spending was invested in lower and upper secondary education, 35.4 billion euros. Only 0.6 percent was earmarked for university and tertiary education.
