Horizontal Fiscal Equalisation in Australia: Data and algorithm

Data description: This dataset was used in my paper "Horizontal Fiscal Equalisation under No Budget Allocation Rules and Free Factor Mobility: Can it Lead to Regional Convergence of Public Good Quality? An Empirical Assessment of the Case of Australia" The data was sourced in its entirety from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website (https://www.abs.gov.au/). It comprises expenditure data for Australian states, that were processed for the analytical purposes of the paper (converted to real per capita measures using the ABS Price Deflator and ABS population data) for the period 1990-2018, as further processing is clearly explained in the paper itself, and included in the files for transparency.Data collection time details: 2020 Number of files/types: 39 XLSX files Special software required to open files: Microsoft Excel Geographic information (if relevant): The dataset includes data for all states of Australia.
