A detailed knowledge of gut microbes is essential for better understanding the effects of Bt rice on animal as a main feed source. To date, no studies have examined the effect of feeding Bt rice on the intestinal microbiota of pigs using high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing technologies. Therefore, we conducted this study to assess the effects of transgenic Bt rice containing the Cry1Ab protein on the faecal microbiome of highly inbred Wuzhishan pigs after two generations of feeding study by analysing the bacterial V3 region of 16S rRNA gene.
