Data for "Courts, Legislatures, and Evolving Property Rules"

These data are used in our paper, "Courts, Legislatures, and Evolving Property Rules: Lessons from
Eminent Domain." The state-level data set indicates whether and when U.S. states allowed (or prohibited) the use of the "benefit offset" when determining the amount of "just compensation" required for the application of eminent domain. Some changes in the rules governing the benefit offset were determined by court rulings, while other changes were legislative.
