This project was a population genetic study of three neutrally and adaptively differentiated populations of anadromous pike (Esox lucius) from the Kalmarsound region of the Baltic Sea. Both microsatellites and Restriction site Associated DNA Sequencing (RADseq) were used to compare the relative performance of the two marker types in estimating genetic diversity and detecting population structure and migration. The RADseq was performed by Science for Life Laboratory (Stockholm, Sweden), and the generated sequences subsequently used for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) calling, and to genotype the individuals. The generated SNP data was also utilized to search for genes putatively under selection, or associated with two environmental factors (salinity and temperature) that the populations are known to be locally adapted to.
