Flood Extent and Damage Assessment in Suceava and Neamț, Romania (July 2025) (2025-07-31)

On 27 and 28 July 2025, severe hydro-meteorological events caused major flooding in the counties of Suceava and Neamț, Romania. The Romanian authorities responded using motor pumps to remove water from affected households. To support the emergency and recovery efforts, the Copernicus Risk and Recovery Mapping service was activated to assess the flood extent and evaluate the related damage along the Bistrița River and its tributaries.

The objective of the activation is to provide geospatial information products to support the assessment of the maximum flood extent and the resulting damage in the affected areas. These products will assist national authorities in evaluating the event’s impact, supporting reporting activities, and informing future risk reduction and spatial planning measures.

The analysis will cover the period from 27 to 31 July 2025, corresponding to the flood peak and immediate aftermath, as defined by the user. Historical reference imagery will also be used to support damage assessment and comparative analysis.
