Uniaxial pressure control of chiral CDW in 1T-TiSe2

The study of charge density wave (CDW) ordering stands as one of the most intriguing cases of modern solid-state physics. Frequently interconnected with the superconducting state and other phenomena, understanding the origins of the CDW phase holds significant importance for manipulating physical properties. For decades transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have extensive research interest as promising playground for 2D systems. Among them, 1T-TiSe2 exhibits a simple commensurate (2x2x2) CDW below TCDW = 202 K. However, it was found that this state in fact represents a chiral phase, caused by threefold symmetry breaking, observed for the first time. With this proposal, we aim to investigate the CDW ordering in 1T-TiSe2 by measuring the temperature dependence of the structural changes under different values of uniaxial strain using hard X-ray diffraction (XRD). These results will be indispensable for understanding and manipulation of material properties, hosting CDW state.
