Visual and Sonic Landscapes of Lerma de Villada, State of Mexico

A unique combination of industrial development, wetlands, mountains, transportation infrastructure, and urban expansion characterizes Lerma de Villada. Its visual landscape includes the marshes and canals of the Lerma wetlands, agricultural fields, industrial parks, highways, residential neighborhoods, and the surrounding mountains of the Toluca Valley. These contrasting elements create a territory where natural ecosystems coexist with intense economic activity. The city's sonic landscape is equally diverse. It is shaped by the sounds of birds and water in the wetlands, traffic from major highways, trains, industrial machinery, street vendors, church bells, local markets, and the everyday rhythms of urban life. Together, these sounds reflect the coexistence of ecological, industrial, and social processes that define contemporary Lerma. The files contained in these folders correspond to the original raw data and are not synchronized. However, in the link provided, the recordings have been synchronized and include geolocation data as well as the corresponding recording timestamps. This is just an initial beta release of the full dataset, currently under construction
