Hong Kong BN(O) Migrants Panel Survey, Wave 1, 2024

<p><span style="font-style: italic;">The Hong Kong British National (Overseas) Migrants Panel Survey, Wave 1, 2024</span> is organised by scholars based at University College London (UCL), King's College London, and The University of Oxford and is funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).</p>
<p>This three-year study, running from May 2023 to August 2026, aims to gather reliable, accurate, and representative data about the needs and experience of the BN(O) migrants in the UK. The collected data will help the development of policies and services that would support the integration BN(O)s into British society. This research project aims to facilitate the formulation and development of policies and services that support the integration of BN(O) migrants into British society.</p>
<p>The key aims of the study included:</p>
<ul>
<li>How are BN(O) migrants faring in the UK with regard to their social and economic well-being?</li><li>What are the specific needs and experiences of BN(O) migrants?</li><li>How do the experiences and needs of BN(O) migrants compare with those of other migrant groups or minority ethnic populations in the UK?</li><li>What are the long-term intentions of BN(O) migrants regarding their residency in the UK or potential return to Hong Kong?</li></ul>
<p>Wave 1 of the study was conducted in July - Sept 2024, by Ipsos commissioned by the research team. Respondents were sent invitations to complete interviews via online questionnaires, or telephone interviews if needed. A total of 2,162 interviews were conducted, with 1,592 of them sampled from the Home Office principal BN(O) visa applicant database (primary respondents) and 570 secondary respondents from adult members of the primary respondent’s household.</p>
