AMT26 (JR16001) Discrete salinity measurements from CTD bottles and surface underway samples.

This dataset consists of 271 discrete salinity measurements obtained from water samples collected from CTD bottles and the underway non-toxic-seawater supply used for calibration of the Sea-Bird conductivity sensors. Samples were collected during the Atlantic Meridional Transect programme cruise (AMT26, JR16001) between 20th September and 4th November 2016. NERC funded as part of National Capability. This is a repeat transect to obtain biogeochemical observations along a transit between the UK and Falkland Islands, which passes through both north and south Atlantic gyres. During this cruise, 119 samples were collected from CTD casts. Water was taken from 2 randomly selected Niskin bottles at different depths and stored ready for analysis using an AutoSal Bench Salinometer. A total of 152 samples were collected from the ships underway non-toxic water supply approximately every 4 hours and stored, ready for analysis using an AutoSal Bench Salinometer. This dataset contributes to the AMT time-series of core oceanographic measurements along a north-south transect of the Atlantic Ocean.
