Bufotes viridis Genome sequencing and assembly

The green toad (Bufo viridis, recently also called: Bufotes viridis) is a diploid representative of a radiation of Western Palearctic anurans that are distributed from Central Europe to Mongolia and from North Africa to northern India. The complex is characterized by at least 12 mitochondrial haplotype groups and several species comprising three sexually reproducing ploidy levels (diploid, triploid, tetraploid).In order to develop molecular markers associated with known genes, we sequenced mRNA from six pooled tissues of a single adult male from Greece (locality: south of Astros, geographic coordinates 37.383 N, 22.74 E; collected on March 14, 2011).
