Education, Awareness, and Adoption of International Software Quality Standards (ISQS) – A Systematic Literature Review (2014–2025)

This study aims to systematically review the literature on the education, awareness, and adoption of international software quality standards (ISQS), such as ISO/IEC 29110 and ISO/IEC 25010, between 2014 and 2025. It investigates how these standards are integrated into software engineering curricula, how they are perceived by professionals and educators, and what factors influence their adoption in practice.
The review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and used a pre-registered, standard-neutral search protocol across two databases, Scopus and Web of Science. From 1,148 initial records, 156 peer-reviewed studies published between 2014 and 2025 were included in the final corpus. Five research questions guided the synthesis, covering curriculum integration, pedagogical strategies, professional awareness, adoption barriers, and the role of compliance mechanisms and tool support.
This study is part of the IT-ISQS Project, an Erasmus+ KA220-HED Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education initiative. The project brings together academic partners from Turkey, Spain, and the Netherlands to foster curriculum development and international collaboration in the field of software quality education.
