In Xishuangbanna, a typical rubber-growing region in southwestern China, four forest types representing different restoration chronologies were selected: rubber monoculture (RM), naturally regenerated forest (NF), artificially regenerated forest (AF), and mature tropical rainforest (MF) as a control. By assessing soil nitrogen-fixation potential (based on nifH gene copy numbers), analysing soil nitrogen-fixing microbial community dynamics, and integrating key soil factor measurements, we aim to elucidate the mechanistic linkages between diverse restoration pathways and underground functional recovery.
