Grazing amplifies species turnover in global drylands

The BIODESERT global survey is the first systematic field survey designed to evaluate the combined effects of grazing and climate on the structure, functioning, and services of dryland ecosystems worldwide. Conducted between 2016 and 2019, this collaborative effort involved collecting field data and plant/soil samples from 326 plots (45 m × 45 m each) across 98 experimental sites in 25 countries spanning six continents.Here, we provide data on plant and soil microbial (bacterial and fungal) α-diversity and β-diversity, along with basic site information relevant to our study. We also include the main codes used to run the linear mixed-effects models for analyzing α-diversity and β-diversity.
