The transitional landscape characterizes transitional environments in the western Kerguelen Islands, particularly on the Rallier du Baty Peninsula. It is characterized by two coexisting ecological dynamics: active colonization by pioneer species, mainly bryophytes, on young and poorly developed substrates, and more mature peatland areas with established vegetation and continuous organic accumulation. Typical habitat of landscape 4 with alluvial plains composed mainly of bryophytes. The mountains in the background on the right side of the photo are the Deux Frères.
