DEA-related occurrences in the 1795 Italian translation of The Castle of Otranto*: analytical appendix and supplementary dataset*

This dataset contains a structured analytical table of textual occurrences with potential demo-ethno-anthropological (DEA) relevance identified in the 1795 Italian translation of The Castle of Otranto. The table includes the original Italian terms or phrases, English translations, occurrence counts, references to the printed book pages, DEA-related domains, and brief interpretive notes. The dataset was produced as a supplementary analytical appendix to support a study on the digital recontextualisation of Walpole’s novel as a narrative interface for the enhancement of Apulian intangible cultural heritage, with particular attention to Apulian folklore, oral traditions, local legends, ritual practices, and vernacular religious expressions. In this sense, the dataset documents the textual nodes through which the Gothic narrative can be connected to folklore-related materials from southern Italy. Occurrence counts should be considered working counts based on close reading and OCR-assisted scanning of the text. The dataset is intended for scholarly reuse, citation, and further refinement.
