Data from a Laboratory Assessment of Alternative Stream Velocity Measurement Methods

The USGS Idaho Water Science Center (IDWSC) completed a report (citation TBD) documenting methods for alternative stream velocity measurement methods. The methods developed can be used to provide low-cost estimates of stream velocity as a component to estimate total streamflow at remote sites. This data release presents data from a laboratory assessment of alternative stream velocity measurement methods This data release includes measurement from several stream velocity methods collected in a flume laboratory as well as a summarized comparison of alternative methods and conventional methods. Velocity measurements were collected for multiple conditions in which the substrate material and the flow rate of the flume was adjusted. These data were collected and analyzed in order to estimate the precision and accuracy of alternative stream velocity methods and to explore how these estimates vary under different velocities, depths, and stream substrate size.
