The holoder is of the opinion that the likely economic performance of an underground mine at Katrina will be poor. Mining in the Rangal Coal Measures has proven to be difficult. Kenmare closed due to concerns over the high level of risk associated with mining through faulted ground. Cook Colliery has had a chequered history. Togara South and Togara North projects have both been assessed, but have not advanced to construction due to the impact of the frequent geological structure impacting on productivity and financial aspects of the projects. The depth of cover at Katrina is higher than all of the above operations/projects, which is likely to further hinder the prospects for financial viability. MDL 3004 was cancelled for non payment of rent on 19 December 2019.
