Census of Retail Trade, 1972: Public Use Summary Tape

<p>In 1972, the Census of Retail Trade was taken from the Census of Business and classified separately. Earlier Censuses of Retail Trade are included in the Census of Business. Starting with 1997, it is classified with the Economic Census. This data collection contains summary statistics for retail establishments. The data contain the number of establishments, type of establishment, sales of establishments, number of establishments with payroll, rank order by volume of sales, cumulative sales as a percent of the US total sales, and sales of establishments with payroll. Kind-of-business classifications in these files are in accordance with the industry classifications defines in the 1972 edition of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual.</p>
