This study used RNAseq to compare gene expression levels between two strains of Helicoverpa zea, a Bt-resistant strain and a Bt-susceptible strain. The submitted sequences are those that had sufficient copies of a particular gene in all of the replicates we used for both of the strains of H. zea. Bt-crops are a common method used in the USA to control for many insect species including moths like Helicoverpa zea, this species and others have evolved high levels of resistance to the insecticidal proteins (such as Cry family proteins) which are the active ingredient in Bt-insecticidal crops. This data set compares the gene expression levels between a Bt-resistant and Bt-susceptible strain with the goal of analyzing and identifying novel genetic mechanisms of resistance.
