Climatic mass balance dataset for Svalbard glaciers between 1990 and 2025

Dataset of annual climatic mass balance for all glaciers in Svalbard. Results were extracted from a preliminary dataset for 1990-2025, produced using the coupled energy balance firn model (EBFM; Van Pelt et al. 2019, 2021), forced with CARRA reanalysis data, on a 500-m resolution grid. Compared to Van Pelt et al. (2019), the model contains new descriptions for seasonal snow compaction (following Van Kampenhout et al. 2017) and turbulence (following Fitzpatrick et al. 2017). Model calibration follows as similar procedure as in Van Pelt et al. (2019) for melt and accumulation parameters using stake mass balance data across Svalbard. Additional calibration of snow compaction parameters was done using bulk snow pit densities measured by Uppsala University and the Norwegian Polar Institute. A manuscript on this dataset is currently in preparation. Climatic mass balance is calculated per mass balance year using a start date of 15 September.
