Effects of xanthohumol on healthy and Crohn's disease-like gut microbiota

This study uses a long-term ex vivo fecal microbiota incubation system (SHIME) to investigate the effects of xanthohumol, a phytochemical from the hop plant, on gut microbiota composition and function. The experimental design (TWINSHIME) includes a side by side comparison of gut microbiota collected from a healthy donor and gut microbiota from a donor with Crohn's disease (sex and age matched). The study goal is to determine the effects of xanthohumol on composition and function of gut microbiota in states of health and Crohn's disease like dysbiosis.
