Examining the impact that in-feed methane inhibitors have on the rumen microbial community

The impact of the methane inhibitors 3-nitroxypropanol and canola oil have on the microbial community of the rumen was investigated by sequencing the V4 region of the 16s rRNA gene. The goal of this study was to examine how these compounds alter the microbial community to understand the biological mechanism of each methane inhibitor. Ultimately this information may lead to the development of methods for reducing enteric methane emissions from ruminant livestock.
