Galesburg Downtown Subarea

As a part of the 2019 City of Galesburg Comprehensive Plan, a detailed plan was developed for the Main Street and Downtown area. This plan established a vision and provided more specific recommendations for this critical commercial area of the City. The Downtown plan is available at https://cms7files.revize.com/galesburg/Document_Center/Department/Administration/Goals%20&%20Priorities/Final%20Galesburg%20Comp%20Plan%20LQ.pdf#page=102 It further broke the Downtown into four geographic areas or frames: North is characterized by industrial spaces ready for redevelopment as well as existing multifamily developments and specialty retail. Core is the heart of Downtown one block either side of Main Street from Cedar to the Underpass and three blocks south of Simmons Street between Cherry and Seminary Streets consisting of stores, restaurants, offices and some upper-floor residential. South is characterized by a connection to Knox College and the Galesburg arts community. West forms the western entrance to Downtown and includes residential areas.
