Establishing a Social Research Infrastructure for Hazards and Disaster Studies - Quebec Canada

This project aims to comprehensively map existing hazards and disaster educational programs and resources in the post-secondary institutions in Quebec, Canada. Dataset was collected from the official websites of 135 colleges and 18 universities. The dataset includes: (1) description of the college or university, (2) website and address, (3) courses that focus on risks, hazards, and disasters, and (4) academic programs that address risks, hazards, and disasters. The original data also indicate faculty members who have expertise in conducting hazard and disaster research. However, faculty members’ data (e.g., names, email addresses, and office telephone numbers) cannot be shared publicly due to privacy and ethical concerns. This dataset can be used to compare and illustrate the differences in the current level of hazards-and-disasters-specific-post-secondary educational resources, which in turn, can encourage academic institutions and educators to address the existing gaps and explore possible solutions. The dataset can also be used by current and future students in identifying potential hazards and disaster programs and courses.
