Sequence data of DNA extracted from formalin-preserved planktic samples. We tested nine different lysis solution to reverse the cross-linkage formed between the molecules by formalin fixation using plankton samples preserved in formalin during 23 and 17 years. Further, we investigated how the eukaryotic community composition changed with preserved time in formalin using an optimal extraction method.
