资源简介:
This study investigated the dynamics of marital relationships and their effects on marital adjustment. The study focused on submissive behaviors, rumination and mental well-being and examined their effects on marital adjustment. The study revealed that submissive behavior, which is defined as giving in to one's partner, not expressing one's true feelings and withdrawal, is negatively related to marital adjustment. In addition, ruminative thoughts about being wrong were found to be a mediating factor and submissive behavior led to repetitive thoughts and ultimately reduced marital adjustment. In addition, mental well-being was found to be a mediating factor and submissive behaviors in marriage negatively affected marital adjustment by reducing positive affect such as optimism, relaxation, and positive functioning such as competence. These findings contribute to the complex nature of the relationship between submissive behaviors and marital adjustment. Discussion of possible explanations and limitations of the findings are presented.
