资源简介:
This collection comprises image and text data from an Archaeological Watching Brief and Historic Building Recording at 137-139 High Street, Billericay, Essex. The work was undertaken by Archaeology South-East in January 2017. The work was commissioned by Breley Design Ltd to satisfy a condition attached to planning permission relating to the proposed redevelopment of the building to provide residential accommodation. The site consists of two adjoining buildings on the west side of Billericay High Street. Together they formerly served the town as the Horse Shoes Inn. No. 139 was built in the late 18th century, possibly as an inn from the outset. No. 139 was constructed in 1885, but appears to have replaced an earlier structure of similar footprint. Both structures have been substantially extended and modified throughout the 20th century resulting in the loss of much of their internal character, and in the case of No. 139, its original layout.
