County Hex Grid (1 sq mi)

This feature layer contains a hexagonal polygon grid that covers all of Montgomery County, Texas, plus a 1‑mile buffer beyond the county boundary. Each hexagon is approximately 1 square mile in area and is uniquely identified by a hexagon ID. The grid was created by the Montgomery County IT‑GIS team to support operational mapping, planning, and analysis across multiple departments. Each hexagon includes attributes that summarize several jurisdictional and reference datasets. For every hexagon, users can view the associated county, city, ZIP Code, commissioner precinct, and emergency service district (ESD), based on the location of the hexagon. These attributes were generated using spatial joins between the hexagon grid and the corresponding jurisdictional boundary layers. Where a hexagon intersects multiple jurisdictions for a given layer, the attribute values reflect the predominant or intersecting jurisdiction according to internal GIS processing rules. In addition to jurisdictional information, each hexagon includes a count of address points that fall within its boundaries. This address count was produced using a summarize‑within operation, using address point data provided by the Montgomery County Emergency Communication District (MCECD). The address point dataset reflects conditions as of January 2026. The hexagon layer is intended to support generalized analysis of address density, service coverage, and operational responsibilities without exposing individual address‑level records. This dataset is designed for internal mapping, planning, and emergency response workflows within Montgomery County. It provides a standardized spatial framework that can be joined with other operational datasets, dashboards, and web maps. The layer is not intended to replace authoritative jurisdictional boundary datasets or official address records and should be used as a generalized, derived product.
