A heavy rain event hit central Italy on January 24-25. The heavy rainfall combined with soils saturation due to the precipitation of the previous days, caused a significant increase of the level of the Turano dam, which reached its historic level and had to be emptied. The emptying caused widespread flooding in the nearby valley, close to the town of Rieti, Contigliano and Belmonte in Sabina.<br>
