Vaccination has proven to be one of the most successful public health interventions. However, new vaccine design approaches are essential to counter infectious diseases which have defied conventional vaccination efforts. Nanoparticle vaccines that enable the elicitation of strong and broad immunity offer great opportunities to supplement traditional vaccines, providing tractable solutions to combat dangerous pathogens. Here, we successfully prepared improved nanoparticle vaccines for influenza and COVID-19 and gained greater insights into immunological mechanisms that drove immunogenicity of nanoparticle vaccines in mice. This work could facilitate rational design of next-generation vaccines and pave the way for further advances in vaccine nanotechnology.
